What to Bring to Your First Primary Care Appointment
A little preparation makes your first visit far more useful — for you and for your new doctor. Here’s what’s worth gathering beforehand.
Your Medical History
Past diagnoses, surgeries, hospitalizations, and family health history all help your doctor build an accurate picture from day one, rather than piecing it together over several visits.
A Current Medication List
Include prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and supplements you take regularly. Dosages and how long you’ve been taking each one are helpful details if you have them.
Insurance or Membership Information
Bring your insurance card, or your DPC membership details if you’re enrolling that way, so the front desk can get you set up without back-and-forth.
Your Questions, Written Down
It’s easy to forget what you meant to ask once you’re in the room. A short written list makes sure nothing gets left out.
