Telemedicine Terms

Telemedicine lets you see our physician by secure video. These terms explain who can use it, how it works, and its limits.

Effective date: October 15, 2026
The short version
  • Telemedicine is for adults 18+ who are physically in Texas at the time of the visit.
  • You need a private place, a working camera and microphone, and a stable connection.
  • Some problems need an in-person exam. In an emergency, call 911.

01Who can use telemedicine

  • Adults 18 and older.
  • You must be physically located in Texas during the visit. We will ask where you are at the start of each visit, and we must end the visit if you are outside Texas.
  • New and existing patients may use telemedicine when it is medically appropriate.

02How a visit works

  1. Book online or call (855) 66-LUCKY.
  2. Complete any forms and payment before the visit starts.
  3. Join from the secure link we send you. We will confirm your identity and location.
  4. Our physician will review your history, talk with you, and examine what can be seen on camera.
  5. Your care plan, prescriptions, and follow-up instructions will be shared through the Patient Portal.

See Telemedicine Services for hours and the conditions we commonly treat.

03Benefits and limits

Telemedicine can save travel time and get you care sooner. It also has limits:

  • The physician cannot touch, listen to, or test you the way an in-person exam can.
  • Video and audio quality can affect what the physician can see and hear.
  • Your physician may decide during the visit that you need an in-person exam, lab work, or imaging. If that happens, we will help you schedule it.

04Prescriptions

Prescriptions are written at the physician’s discretion and only when medically appropriate. Some medications, including certain controlled substances, may not be prescribed by telemedicine or may require an in-person visit first, under federal and Texas law.

05Your privacy and responsibilities

  • We use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. We do not record visits.
  • Join from a private location where others cannot overhear, unless you want someone with you.
  • Tell us if anyone else is present during your visit.
  • Give us accurate information about your symptoms, history, medications, and location.

06If the connection fails

If the video connection drops and we can’t reconnect, we will call you at the number on file to finish the visit by phone when appropriate, or reschedule you.

07Payment

Payment is due before the visit begins. Insurance coverage for telemedicine varies by plan, and you are responsible for any amount your plan does not cover. Self-pay patients may request a Good Faith Estimate. DPC members have up to three tele-visits per month included when appropriate.

08Emergencies

Telemedicine is not for emergencies. Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room for chest pain, trouble breathing, signs of stroke, or any life-threatening problem.

09Consent

By scheduling and joining a telemedicine visit, you consent to receive care by telemedicine under these terms. You may withdraw consent at any time and choose an in-person visit instead, without affecting your future care. We may also ask you to sign a separate telemedicine consent form.
